Biased Language vs Neutral Language and Hedging Language

تُعد مهارة Biased Language, Neutral Language, and Hedging Language مهمة جدًا لطلاب مستوى B2، خاصة في Reading, Writing, Academic Writing, Opinion Essays وCritical Thinking.

How does the writer say it?

  • Biased Language
  • Neutral Language
  • Hedging Language

What Is Biased Language?

Biased Language

Good / Bad / Right / Wrong

Example:

Only foolish students waste their time on social media.

foolish

Biased Language

The government's ridiculous decision has destroyed the education system.

ridiculous
destroyed

Biased / Highly Opinionated

Strong opinions

amazing
terrible
ridiculous
perfect
useless
disgusting
brilliant

Emotional language

heartbreaking
shocking
terrifying
wonderful

Generalizations

everyone
no one
always
never
all

Example:

Teenagers are always addicted to their phones.

Biased Language

Example 1

Online learning is a terrible way to educate students.

terrible

What Is Neutral Language?

Neutral Language

  • Objective
  • Balanced
  • Factual

Example

Online learning is a terrible way to educate students.

Some students find online learning less effective than classroom learning.

Online Learning.

Some students

Neutral

ما هي Hedging Language؟

Hedging Language

Less direct
Less certain
More careful

Academic Writing

This is definitely true.

This may be true.
